Fishing Holes
To give you a better idea of what you can look forward to, we have provided the following descriptions of the areas and waters you can fish during your stay at the Ranch.

family dude ranch The Duck Pond
With the Bighorn Mountains as the backdrop, the setting here is beautiful. Fishing the Duck Pond can be exciting. The pond is stocked with bass and crappies that are waiting to be caught. There is potential for some big ones, but there are numerous fish in the 10" range. Young and old alike can fish the Duck Pond and have hours of fun from the shore or from the boat. The best fishing is mid to late evening, but any time of the day will produce fish.

Wolf Creek
You cannot get a better setting for a creek than the one we have running through our ranch from the Bighorn Mountains! Wolf Creek holds many fish in deeper pools, smaller riffles and runs. Rainbows and browns are in the 8-12 inch range. We like to call them "breakfast fish" because we will cook them for you for breakfast. Big fish can be hard to find, but they are there. Wolf Creek is very heavily covered in parts. Trees and willows can be troublesome, but different casting techniques can be beneficial for those hard-to-reach spots. The creek opens up more in spots in Wolf Creek Canyon and in the Bighorn National Forest. Fly hatches can be overwhelming, but they assure you great dry fly-fishing. The best times to fish this spot are early to mid-morning or later in the afternoon.

Tongue River
The North and South Tongue: The North Tongue starts high in the Bighorn Mountains. It holds fish like cutthroat, rainbows and some brook trout. The river's trout are in the 7-12 inch range but are fun to catch. This river is at a high elevation, yielding to open meadows and easier casting. Undercut banks as well as usual holding spots are preferred by these trout. The South Tongue is about 15 miles long and joins the North Tongue to create the Tongue River. Maneuvering the South Tongue can be challenging, but you are likely to find rainbows and browns in the 8-12 inch range. The opportunity for even larger fish definitely exists. The fishing experience and the beautiful mountain scenery combine for a great day.

There are also some private spots on the Tongue River outside of Dayton, WY, that offer an excellent opportunity to catch large rainbows and browns. The river lends itself well to all casting techniques and is within easy driving distance of the Ranch. Fishing the Tongue outside of Dayton will be limited to specific days of the week.
